Inter-club regatta July 23rd 2013

RESULTS

It is hoped everyone enjoyed having a go at somewhat more unusual challenges. The intention was to set obstacles that did not favour any particular type, speed or steering ability of the craft that might take part. Ability to steer in reverse would also not be required. On the day it was a bit windy which added to the challenge.

The first challenge was to go through a gate and gently touch a specific coloured ball without pushing it against the wall. If either the ball or the boat touched the wall, the boat had to go back through the gate and try again until successful. The teams scored according to the time taken to complete the challenge.

The parallel bars were the ability to steer a straight line down three canals, each about 5 meters in length with a channel 2 feet wide. Steering was from the opposite side of the pond and the canals were sideways on to the steerer. Penalty points were awarded for touching the bars or a wrong course.

In football, the object was to push a weighted ball through a goal as many times as possible in 5 minutes.

For the steering challenge, each team member had to steer the same supplied boat through a series of gates. The difficulty was that both the steering and throttle had been reversed on the transmitter. Again there were penalty points for touching the buoys or a wrong course.

The overall placing was calculated by adding the positions from each challenge and the winning team won a set of craft knives each. Well done to all who had a go.

Special thanks to Terry and Jean for scoring and adding up the results.

I would also like to mention the others who came and supported the day but didn’t take part: Brain Baker, Greg Cassar (thanks for the photos), Bill Parker and daughter, Roger Tansley, Bob Morrison, the Walshes and the two new members joining on the day - Chris Harding and Rod Johnson. My apologies to anyone I missed.

Finally I would like to mention the added interest of seeing Mark’s NG kit car.
